Tips to Get More Bang for your Buck

  • Before grocery shopping, look at what is in your fridge, freezer, and pantry. Plan to use anything that may expire What can you use for meals? What do you need?
  • Make a list of the things you need.
  • Meal prep on the weekends.
  • Cook larger dinner portions, eat the leftovers at lunch.
  • Buy generic/store brands.
  • Buy frozen vegetables.
  • Buy grains in bulk.
  • Canned foods (without added salt or sugar) are healthy too.
  • Freeze produce, bread, or meat that is about to go bad.
  • Convenience foods typically cost more (pre-cut veggies, shredded cheese etc) – try to avoid them.
  • Do not go to the grocery store hungry.
  • Resist temptations like candy at the at the checkout.
